SPECIAL GUIDELINES FOR ADRENAL TYPES
THE STRATEGY TO AVOID YOUR WORST TEMPTATION in a restaurantâordering a big steak with salad and pretending you had a healthy diet mealâis to have the salad, but with tuna fish or cottage cheese instead. Before-meal appetizers (peanuts, salty snacks) are also a temptation for you, so if these are on the table in a restaurant ask that they be taken away immediately before you have a chance to weaken. If you eat one, youâll eat a lot of them. Drinks can also be a temptation. Order a club soda or mineral water, with a twist of lemon for eye and taste appeal. If you simply canât resist a drink, you might have a wine spritzerâwhite wine mixed with lots of club soda. Sip it slowly and make it last.
YOUR BEST ORDER for a main dish is breast of chicken or turkey, but be sure to request that it is baked, broiled, steamed, or poached, not fried. The classic âdieterâs plateâ in many restaurants consists of fruit, cottage cheese, and a hamburger patty. This is a good choice for you if you ask them to leave off the hamburger. Fruit salad with cottage cheese is another good choice at either lunch or dinner.
IN A FAST-FOOD RESTAURANT, the main thing to avoid is the hamburger. Look for something without red meatâfor example, a chicken taco or a mostly lettuce burrito in a Mexican-style place. A slice of one of the newer âheart-healthyâ pizzas once in a while is acceptable, although pizza in general is too salty for you to make a habit of it. In a hamburger restaurant, a fish sandwich is a possible choice. Or you can have frozen yogurt with a granola topping. For really fast food, carry a covered mug full of granola with you and order a carton of milk to pour over it, perfect for your body type.
